DUT SADDENED BY THE PASSING OF DUT ALUMNUS, MR BHEKA “BEEKAY” MCHUNU


The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is deeply saddened by the passing of the popular Ukhozi FM presenter and businessman, Bheka “Beekay” Mchunu. DUT extends its most sincere condolences to the family, friends, fans and colleagues of the late Mr Mchunu, who passed away on Tuesday, 12 March 2024.


In 2005, DUT conferred Mr Mchunu with a National Diploma in Language Practice. Over the years, the beloved Mr Mchunu became a distinguished member of the DUT Alumni family.


Conveying his condolences, the DUT Director: Advancement and Alumni Relations, Mr Zwakele Ngubane said: “It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Mr Mchunu, a distinguished member of the DUT Alumni family. In the wake of his passing, both the university and the media fraternity have lost a cherished member of their community.”

DUT stands in solemn recognition of Mr Mchunu’s invaluable contributions as an active participant in the Durban community.


“Mr Mchunu’s legacy is one of profound impact, which is a testament to his unwavering professionalism, boundless inspiration, tireless dedication and profound love for his audience. His presence will be deeply missed but his spirit will continue to resonate within our hearts. Rest in Peace Macingwane!” added Mr Ngubane.

DUT prays for strength and comfort of those who are in mourning. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
