SLEEPLESS NIGHTS, DEDICATION AND SELF DISCIPLINE FINALLY PAYS OFF FOR THABO DIMBA

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) student, Thabo Dimba, (21) from Cato Ridge will be graduating Cum Laude for his Advanced Diploma in Internal Auditing on Thursday, 14 July 2022 at the DUT Celebratory Autumn Graduation Ceremony at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC).

Dimba’s journey at DUT began in 2018 and his rollercoaster ride transitioning from high school to the University was not easy. There were a lot of components involved even outside the academics that played a huge role on his overall performance at the institution. Luckily for Dimba, Internal Auditing is one of the complex courses that trained him to adapt easily. For him, Internal Auditing did not really end when the lecture ended, he always tried by all means to apply it into everyday life which made his journey at DUT very special.

Dealing with the academic pressure, attending tutorials, asking a lot of questions, sleepless nights and a great deal of self-discipline got him through and to achieve Cum Laude. Dimba gave a voice of thanks to all his lecturers and tutors because without their enormous input none of his accomplishments would have happened.

“Good results reflect on the amount of work that was invested, I am very ecstatic about the results because they bring hope about the bright future that I always dreamt of. I am also hoping that this can help me attract sponsors so that I can be able to settle the outstanding fees and get my certificates,” he said.

Internal Auditing was Dimba’s first choice, he chose Internal Auditing because it’s one of the flexible fields whereby one can deal with different and complex problems on a daily basis and help people understand the business world at another level while forcing one to communicate thus improving the public speaking skills; a crucial aspect in the modern world.

“COVID-19 has taken a lot from us, it deprived me of my first ever physical graduation. I think the online graduation ceremony will never match the excitement, priceless moments and dramatic scenes of the physical graduation so hearing that there will be a physical graduation makes me happy,” said Dimba.

At some point in time, Dimba plans to further his studies but for now his objective is to get an entry level job so he can put to practice his knowledge and gain experience on the field. His dream is to move further up the ladder into a senior position. Outside his career aspirations, he would like to have his own organisation that will empower young people fresh from university and offer them assistance.

To all first-year-students who would like to do Internal Auditing, Dimba relayed that Internal Auditing is an exciting choice of study because it challenges an individual in so many different levels.

“Internal Auditing is a good choice of study but through hard work and determination, all is possible,” he said.
