NXUMALO SHINES AT THE OPENING OF THE FACULTY OF ACCOUNTING AND INFORMATICS CELEBRATORY GRADUATION

He left the crowd wanting more of his Zulu dance at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Celebratory Autumn Graduation ceremony at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) on Wednesday, 13 July 2022.

Malusi Nxumalo from eMthwayiqwa at Inkandla graduated for his Advanced Diploma in Business and Information Management. He came dressed in his full IsiZulu attire, making him to be among one of the most memorable graduates of the first session of the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics. His family could not hold back their excitement when his name was called on the stage, his Gogo who raised him after his mother passed away at a young age, excitedly danced besides the stage.

Speaking about his attire, Nxumalo said: “Firstly, I would like to state that religiously, I am a member of the Shembe church at eKuphakameni, which is very traditional. Besides that, I grew up in the rural area, I love my tradition and I am very proud to be a Zulu man. I felt this prestigious event was the perfect space to promote my tradition and to showcase that I am proud of where I come from.”

Nxumalo said he wanted to make his graduation memorable as achieving this qualification was not easy. He stated that one of the major challenges he faced was adapting to the online learning at first, however as time went on he realised that he had to move with the times of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

During his interview, Nxumalo revealed that his fear is to add to the statistics of the unemployed graduates.

“We appeal to the companies to hire us as our parents have made a lot of sacrifices to get us educated. We worked hard to get the qualification, we are done but we are unemployed. We appeal that they give us a chance as our parents who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, depend on us to make a better future,” explained Nxumalo.

His Gogo, Busi Ngonyama expressed she was very proud of her grandson and that she wishes him to get employment soon.
