FORMER DUT FASHION AND TEXTILES STUDENTS ARE HANDPICKED FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS HOLLYWOODBETS DURBAN JUL

The lucky fashion designers chosen for the Hollywoodbets Durban July invited Designer Showcase are Kathrin Kidger (Former DUT student), Mxolisi Mkhize, Sibu Msimang (former DUT student), Madelain Clark, Joel Janse van Vuuren and Sadie Bosworth-Smith (former DUT student).

Hollywoodbets Durban July invited Designer Showcase presented by Durban Fashion Fair, is showcasing a designer whose path to fame started with the annual raceday fashion programme.

One of the ecstatic fashion designers is the renowned Sibu Msimang, who has made a name for herself in the bedazzled world of fashion.

“I am so grateful to be given the opportunity and be invited as one of the designers to showcase,” she said euphorically.

For Msimang, after having graduated in 2005 with her national Diploma in Fashion and Textiles, she went out to the big, competitive world to make her name for herself and own a fashion label and business.

Her spectacular designs are now being supplied at Edgars in Sandton, and a shop at Glenwood Village where she is the co-owner of the shop too.

Speaking of her time as a student at DUT, Msimang elaborated that DUT had definitely helped in her journey.

“I think it is important to learn things the proper way and I think at DUT we did learn how to do things the proper way. Obviously, once you get out of DUT that is where the learning starts and you are on the job. I think DUT prepared me very well, they prepared us as well as they could for the working world,” she said.

Another former DUT alumnus, creative couturier is Sadie Bosworth-Smith, who specialises in bridal wear. In terms of fashion, her inspiration came from her sister and her aunt whilst growing up. Her designs are strikingly sensual; each gown reflects her love of materials and the act of creating beautiful garments.

Durban’s guru in fashion, designer Kathrin Kidger is eager to take the ramp to show-off her latest collection.

Adding to the list of invited designers are Johannesburg headliner Joel Janse Van Vuuren who can be expected to show off his ability to delve into creative extremes with his raceday ensemble for the collection.

Fashion Programme Director, Tiffany Prior, said that the six designers they have chosen for this year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July Invited Designer Showcase has each one bringing so much to the table. They all understand that first-and-foremost, this is a chic, elegant, raceday fashion event.

The theme for the 2023 Hollywoodbets Durban July set to be run on Saturday, 1 July 2023 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse has been proudly unveiled by Gold Circle and Hollywoodbets.

Launched as a poem each year, the ‘Out Of This World’ theme for the 2023 event hints at the stargates which transports one into a mysterious world far beyond our imagination.
