COVID-19 ANTIGEN TESTING IS NOW OFFERED AT DUT

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) Campus Health Clinics, in collaboration with Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), Higher Health and National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS), have trained professional nurses to conduct COVID-19 Antigen testing.

The clinics, which are both based in Durban and Midlands campuses at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) will offer COVID-19 Antigen tests for both symptomatic and asymptomatic students, for example, students sharing a room, or student athletes.

CHAI has sponsored 425 testing kits following the successful training of all nurses which was completed on 8th March 2022. The nurses have also registered on the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS) COVID Screening App (CSA). All tests conducted will be captured immediately and students or staff will receive an SMS of the COVID test results.

These COVID-19 Antigen testing will be offered both in Durban and Midlands campuses and the intervention is aimed to strengthen diagnostic capacity and disease surveillance and enhance the current range of services offered at DUT’s health clinics. Antigen Testing will assist with early detection and control of the spread of the infection.

The COVID-19 Task Team and the Department of Student Counselling and Health will continue to engage with stakeholders to advocate for greater commitment in tackling this Pandemic.

Sister Soori Wardthen, Chief Professional Nurse reminded the DUT community that COVID-19 vaccinations are freely available at the Isolempilo Clinic, on Steve Biko Campus, every Thursdays.

The provision of this service to the DUT community aligns with the strategic perspectives of the Durban University of Technology on enabling a community ethos and holistic student support and of society by engaging and collaborating with external partners.
