DENEEKA VINAY RAMGOOLAM BELIEVES THAT QUANTITY SURVEYING CHOSE HER SINCE IT WAS NOT HER FIRST CHOICE

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) student Deneeka Vinay Ramgoolam, (27) from Phoenix, graduated Cum Laude and obtained a Dean’s Merit Award in the Bachelor of the Built Environment Honours in Quantity Surveying at the DUT Celebratory Autumn Graduation ceremonies at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Durban International Convention Centre (ICC) on Tuesday, 12 June 2022.

Ramgoolam successfully completed her Diploma and B Tech degree, and Honours in Quantity Surveying at DUT. She now has five years’ experience in the Quantity Surveying industry.

With limited time for assignment completion, as well as limited timing for studying for tests, are among the difficulties that she encountered. She indicated that she overcame the challenges through sheer hard work, many late nights and most importantly, the encouragement of her family to persevere.

“Quantity Surveying was one of my choices, but it was not my first choice. I was accepted, I persisted, and the rest is history. Considering all of the hard work and late nights that went into finishing the course, I am quite pleased with this prestigious achievement,” she said.

Ramgoolam’s family members were overjoyed with the news because they knew how much effort and hard work had gone into finishing the course.

She is not planning to further her studies for now, but her main goal is to obtain certification as a professional Quantity Surveyor.

“My advice would be to thoroughly research the job, speak with professionals already in the industry and ensure you have a strong passion for numbers and construction,” said Ramgoolam.
